A field trip to the National Museum of African American History & Culture with 20 educators from a local community college & the 2019 DC Pride Parade made for an exciting diversity-centered weekend. We discussed topics like the Brown Paper Bag Test, racial bias within ethnic groups, & our familial histories. But the weekend took a turn when a gun in a crowd sent people running in terror. The active shooter reports at the DC Pride Parade may not have been accurate, but the fear & tears of those in attendance were very real. In BONUM's commitment to diversity & inclusion, we hope for a world where people aren’t afraid to gather around their beliefs.
